Understanding Made-to-Order Furnishings
Crafted for Your Home, Not Pulled from a Warehouse
The furnishings offered at Indian Creek are made-to-order, meaning they are handcrafted specifically for you after your order is placed.
Unlike mass-produced furniture that sits boxed in a warehouse, made-to-order furnishings enter production only after your selections have been finalized. From dimensions and configurations to leathers, fabrics, finishes, and decorative details, your piece is built around your vision and your home.
The result is furniture that feels personal, intentional, and uniquely yours.
What Does "Made-to-Order" Mean?
Made-to-order means your furniture is built after your order is submitted and approved.
Rather than selecting from existing inventory, you're commissioning a piece to be crafted specifically for you.
Understanding Lead Times
What Is a Lead Time?
Lead time refers to the estimated amount of time required to build your furniture before it is ready to leave the manufacturer's facility. Lead time is production time only.
Lead time does not include:
-
Freight transit time
-
White-glove delivery scheduling
-
In-home delivery and installation
-
Weather-related shipping delays
-
Carrier delays
-
Holiday closures or manufacturer shutdowns
Simply put:
Lead Time = Production Time
Shipping Time = Transit Time
Delivery Time = Scheduling & Placement
Understanding the difference between these stages helps set accurate expectations throughout the process.
What Happens During Production?
Once your order is finalized, your furniture enters the manufacturer's production queue.
During this process:
-
Materials are sourced and prepared
-
Frames are constructed and reinforced
-
Leathers and fabrics are cut and sewn
-
Wood components are stained, finished, and cured
-
Decorative details are installed
-
Quality inspections are completed
-
Furniture is prepared for shipment
Each piece moves through multiple stages before it is approved for delivery.
Why Does Custom Furniture Take Longer?
The answer is simple: it isn't mass-produced.
The furnishings we offer are built by skilled craftsmen using premium materials and customized specifications. Your selections may influence material sourcing, production schedules, finishing processes, and quality-control procedures. Because each piece is made specifically for you, production requires time, attention, and craftsmanship.
We believe exceptional furniture is worth the wait.
The Journey of Your Furniture
1. Design & Order Approval
Your selections, specifications, and customizations are finalized and submitted for production.
2. Production
Your furniture is handcrafted and inspected by the manufacturer.
3. Freight Transit
Once completed, your furniture is transported from the manufacturer to a regional delivery partner.
4. Delivery Scheduling
A delivery coordinator contacts you to schedule a convenient delivery appointment.
5. White-Glove Delivery
Your furniture is delivered, placed in your home, assembled when applicable, and inspected upon arrival.
Natural Materials & Handcrafted Character
Our furnishings incorporate natural materials such as leather, wood, hair-on-hide, stone, iron, and hand-applied finishes.
Because these materials occur naturally, variations in:
-
Color
-
Grain
-
Texture
-
Distressing
-
Patterning
are to be expected and celebrated. These characteristics are not defects—they are part of what makes each piece unique.
No two pieces will ever be exactly alike.
Planning Ahead
Because made-to-order furnishings require production time, we recommend ordering as early as possible for:
-
New home construction
-
Remodels
-
Holiday gatherings
-
Seasonal residences
-
Special events
Our team is happy to discuss current lead times and help coordinate your project timeline.

Made-to-order furniture requires patience, but it offers something mass-produced furniture never can—a piece built specifically for your home, your lifestyle, and your story.
If you have questions regarding customization options, lead times, delivery schedules, or white-glove service, our team is always available to help.
